What is Burns Notice
Burns Notice is an independent publication by journalist Katelyn Burns. She was the first ever openly trans Capitol Hill Reporter in US history and also reported on the 2020 election as part of Vox's politics team. She brings a broad background to her reporting, including her former career in banking and finance and her bachelor's degree in sport management from the University of Massachusetts.
More than just a trans journalist covering trans issues, Katelyn Burns has a deep interest in how today's news and politics sit within the broader historical context.
Why no paywall
I hate paywalls. Both of my parents are former public school teachers and I believe strongly in the educational ability of independent journalism. Those who seek to marginalize and eradicate trans people like me have their views blasted out for free constantly, and we can't afford to only offer our arguments behind a paywall.
But that comes with a cost. Fewer people are willing to support those who put their work out for free. Having said that, I depend on my readers recognizing the value I bring and paying what they think that work is worth.
If you like my work, consider becoming a paid member at the $4 or $8/month level. This will help me cover my basic bills like groceries and rent and maybe someday I'll have enough of you all to buy my own home.
The dream!
Fresh content, delivered
Unless otherwise noted, I will publish a new column every Monday, alongside a weekly recap with a mini essay on Friday. Most weeks, I will also include something, an interview or a mini column about the latest political news every Wednesday.
Meet people like you
It's been far too quiet in the comments section. Let me know what you think!
