On Yesterday's Post

I get that outrage farming is the easiest way to get clicks these days but please cut me some slack. No, I do not believe we should capitulate on sports. No, I don't think we should cede the sports argument to the right wing. No, I don't want to do whatever it is you want to think I said so that you can get off a sick social media dunk on me.

I've worked my ass off for trans athletes for a whole decade. I started my career off writing about trans athletes. I built my career writing about it. Many of the arguments that have been thrown in my face over the last few days were arguments that I invented or mainstreamed.

My post yesterday acknowledged that we have hit a tipping point on the sports issue. The IOC's ban will not be fucking easy, breezy to overturn. We can't just win an election or take back the White House and get this policy changed. We are facing a good 20 years of advocacy to get them to even consider changing this policy again.

The point I was trying to make yesterday was that expecting to make even incremental progress on the trans athlete issue right now is a pipedream. We need time at the very least. We need to stem the bleeding. We lost huge on sports and we are into the next phase of attacks on our rights.

Heck, Idaho is making it a felony for us to even pee in public.

I find it frustrating that so many people online are sitting there arguing with normie voters over sports when so many worse things are happening to us right now that need our attention. We are getting poor returns sitting here arguing over sports, so let's try a different tack.

There are things we could fight on right now that might offer better returns on our time and effort in the short term than arguing with sports and trying to draw blood from a stone.

No, we shouldn't "abandon" trans athletes. We should fight for every inch, especially when it comes to blue state youth sports. That is the only ground we have left to protect, everywhere else is basically gone.

So yes, fight! Please! But fight smartly!
