This Republican Super PAC Attack Ad is Lying to You

Texas PAC has bought $64 million in attack ads against Democrat James Talarico and it features menacingly edited segments of an otherwise innocuous Human Rights Campaign video

A new ad buy in Texas attacking Democratic Senate Candidate James Talarico features severely misleading cuts from an innocuous Human Rights Campaign video from four years ago.

The ad starts off with a credited video clip of a person saying, "so what can gender affirming care look like for young kids?" With ominous music playing in the background, the ad next shows a picture of a kid that looks to be about 7 or 8 years old saying "transgender surgery on kids, it's wrong," with each word spelled out on screen. It goes on to say that Talarico supported using "taxpayer dollars for transgender surgeries on kids," again showing that same child on a vast empty staircase.

As I explained yesterday, it's a myth that transgender kids that young are getting transition-related surgeries, and yet it is perhaps the most common anti-trans attack this election cycle. It's an attack meant to play on your fear and bigotry to ignore your own personal political priorities and vote for a Republican.

The original HRC video that the ad clips is one of those videos that trans people and organizations used to make back when people used to care about the facts when it came to trans people. While it's presented in the attack ad as something sinister, the video itself reiterates that surgery is not performed on young children, as implied by the misleading attack ad.

After the part clipped in the attack ad, the HRC video explains that for most youth, transition is entirely social, meaning hair, names, clothes, and pronouns. It stresses that none of the care for preteens is irreversible. It's not until individuals hit older ages that any actual medical interventions come into play.

Like, why would you need puberty blockers before puberty begins? Prepubescent boys and girls have essentially the same body anyways.

This medical field is so completely misunderstood and the worst part is that there are actual journalists dedicated to sowing disinformation amongst the general public. It's easy to sell lies about trans rights when the New York Times and The Atlantic are constantly platforming the liars.

That's a large part of why these attacks land amongst a certain crowd. That's why dipshit establishment Dem consultants see an ad like above and think it's "killer," even as it's a house of cards built on lies.

Actually, I think it would be quite informative for the good people of Texas to see the full, unedited HRC video. Then they could at least see that the lying, corrupt crook running for US Senate on the Republican side is lying to them once again.
