Trump is Not Going to Give You $5000

Last night at the Midterm Election Republican National Convention, President Donald Trump promised to send every American adult $5000 if Republicans retain the US House and Senate. He won't do that.

I wanted to write this quick post on this while I'm waiting on edits back on a piece I filed this morning with MS Now.

Last night Trump promised to send $5000 checks to every American adult if Republicans retained control of both the US House and Senate in this year's midterms. But he's made promises like this before without following through and there's no reason to believe the serial scam artist will do any differently this time.

Since retaking the White House again, Trump has promised $5000 "DOGE dividend" checks, $2000 tariff dividend checks, and $1000 ACA subsidy savings checks.

To date, none of these promises have been fulfilled. Trump lied about each of them.

Government payouts are largely popular with voters, a truth Trump took to heart during his first term when he himself signed Covid-19 government stimulus checks. Since then, every couple of months he gets more headlines by promising to send a new form of check to the people for something or other policy his administration is executing and then just never follows through.

It's not surprising really, this is a guy who famously refuses to pay the people he owes money to around him, from business partners, to crypto investors, to the contractors he hires to work on his real estate projects. The guy is a walking scam who somehow failed to make money owning a casino.

Well now the government is the casino, and his voters are the suckers slotting another coin in the slot machine hoping to hit a jackpot that will simply never come. That money is never coming, Trump is just desperate to get people to vote Republican in the midst of the most unpopular presidential term in American history.

I don't think any of this will sway voters who can probably smell the desperation but I've been surprised before. Only time will tell here.
